Video. Humanoid robots gear up for boxing debut in Hangzhou

Updated:

Humanoid robots are trading punches in an intense training camp ahead of a robot boxing competition set to take place in Hangzhou, east China, this Sunday.

The event is part of a series of robot challenges co-hosted by China Media Group and other institutions.

In one recent session, two robots built by Hangzhou startup Unitree Robotics sparred in the ring, showing off moves like aerial spin kicks and quick recoveries after falls.

Engineers say the robots have been systematically upgraded, with improved algorithms and resilience to withstand heavy blows.

The boxing bots have been trained using a vast database of combat movements, refined frame by frame.
