Clones city councillor Pat Treanor has a colourful past.

Clones city councillor Pat Treanor has a colourful past. During “the troubles” of the Northern Irish conflict he participated in underground activities such as removing blockroads at the British Army checkpoints. In a shoot-out he lost a finger. Pat Treanor spent some time in prison. After the signature of the Good Friday Agreement (1998) he was reelected several times to the Clones city council. Clones is located a few steps south of the border, in the Republik of Ireland. Sinn Fein member Pat Treanor fears that “a hard Brexit with a hard border would be devastating for border communities”.
