The head of Russia’s Orthodox Church has begun a four day visit to Britain.

Patriarch Kirill is set to meet the Queen and the Archbishop of Canterbury during the trip which marks 300 years of the Russian Church in the UK. Earlier on Sunday Kirill led a ceremony in London.

The visit comes at a time of strained relations between London and Moscow, notably over Syria and Ukraine, and the Russian religious leader has reportedly said he hopes his trip will help ‘‘strengthen mutual trust’‘.
