In Slovenia, the event took place in 17 towns and cities, with 14 locations participating in Serbia and another three in Slovakia.
At noon in the Serbian city of Niš, 1,100 students wearing red and blue shirts gathered in the main square to perform the quadrille to Strauss’s The Bat, followed by a lively circle dance.
The tradition began with Slovenian students in 2002 and has steadily spread across Europe since 2005.
Speaking in Ljubljana’s Congress Square, Mayor Zoran Janković encouraged students to value their school friendships, describing them as lifelong connections worth preserving.
