The taste of a food product cannot be copyrighted, the EU's top court has ruled. It comes after a Dutch cheese manufacturer Heksenkaas filed the claim against a competitor. The European Court of Justice (ECJ) said that the taste of a food product could not be protected under copyright legislation because it "cannot be identified with precision and objectivity", unlike a photograph, song or piece of writing.
