Human capital flight is a serious problem for Cyprus. In northern Cyprus Euronews reporter Hans von der Brelie met Burcu Arpalikli, a young Turkish Cypriot who chose an international career outside Cyprus, and is now living in the Chinese capital Beijing.
The ongoing “brain drain” is massive, she tells Euronews. The emigration of skilled young Cypriots is linked to lacking job opportunities and to a growing lack of hope that a political solution could be found to the lingering “Cyprus problem.”
