Installations have popped up all over Athens for Documenta 14, the first time the modern art exhibition has opened outside Germany.

Entitled ‘Learning from Athens’ the event will showcase newly-conceived work from over 160 international artists in 40 different locations in the Greek capital.

Running from Saturday (April 8) until mid-July, it touches on themes such as migration, the financial crisis and censorship.

“I think this project is quite profound and layered and complex and it’s offering something that it is totally unique to this city and to many people who will be coming to this city from afar,” Adam Szymczyk, the Artistic Director of Documenta 14 told the press.

Among the attractions are four horsemen who will take 100 days to travel from the Acropolis to Documenta’s home city of Kassel, in the industrial heartland of Germany.

It will host the second leg of the five-yearly exhibition from June 10.
