It was a night to remember at the Cesar Awards in Paris for Dutch director Paul Verhoeven.

His movie ‘Elle’ has been named Best Film and French actress Isabelle Huppert, who stars, has scooped the Best Actress gong.

‘Elle’ sees Huppert play a businesswoman trying to find an unknown assailant who attacked her at home.

The best director award went to French-Canadian Xavier Dolan for divisive family drama ‘It’s Only the End of the World.’

Lead actor Gaspard Ulliel was named best actor for his part.

British director Ken Loach’s drama “I, Daniel Blake” was named best foreign language film. It won the Palme d’Or last year.

George Clooney was also in town, with his pregnant wife Amal. He picked up an Honorary Cesar.

It was an emotional night for French film legend Jean Paul Belmondo who received a Lifetime Tribute accolade.
