At least two people have been killed in Brazil’s Olympic city of Rio de Janeiro when a new cycle lane collapsed into the Atlantic Ocean.

The beach front bike lane was among the projects built in preparation of the Summer Games starting in August.

The victims’ bodies were recovered from the sea and laid out on the beach.

The bike lane collapsed just hours after the Olympic torch was lit in Greece. The cause of the incident was being investigated.

The cycle lane had earned praise for its spectacular views. While no Olympic event will be held on the path, the collapse will likely add to worries about the country’s readiness to host the Games.

Rio is struggling with its biggest recession in about a century and a political crisis that could lead to the president’s impeachment.
