Several Myanmar Red Cross Society volunteers have been wounded after unknown attackers fired at their convoy

The mission was attempting to transport civilians displaced by fighting in Laukai, on the Chinese boarder.

A state of emergency and martial law imposed after fighting broke out between the army and an ethnic Kokang force called the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)..

At least 47 soldiers and 26 MNDAA fighters have been killed since February 9, and according to a state-backed newspaper, thousands of civilians have fled either to other areas of Myanmar or over the border to China.
