Paul Tough is an author and broadcaster, best known for writing “Whatever It Takes: Geoffrey Canada’s Quest to Change Harlem and America”, which explores how the lives and education of underprivileged children could realistically be improved on a large scale.

In this interview, broadcast live from the World Innovation Summit for Education, he chats to Learning World presenter Maha Barada about new research that debunks traditional theories of ‘IQ’ intelligence as an indicator of success and focusses on the importance of non-cognitive skills such as perseverance, curiosity, conscientiousness and self control.
