Large crowds traditionally light bonfires, pray and dance as part of the celebrations at Mount Meron.

The spiritual leader in the Hasidic movement, the Admor of Boyan, lit a bonfire.

Lag BaOmer marks the anniversary of the death of Talmudic sage Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai around 1,900 years ago. Authorities have cancelled the traditional pilgrimage near the Lebanon border due to hostilities with Hezbollah.
