Two mountain rescue workers have been killed in an avalanche in northern Italy.

The victims' bodies were recovered from Mt Grignetta north of Lecco in the country's Lombardia region.

A helicopter ambulance, mountain-rescue teams and police were dispatched to the scene amid unconfirmed reports that another man is missing.

The avalanche is the latest in a series of deadly snow slides in the Italian alps so far this year.
