People chanted 'independence', while demanding the release of two Catalan leaders who were imprisoned for sedition
About 200,000 people have demonstrated in Barcelona against the imprisonment of two prominent figures of the independence movement in Catalonia. The crowd shouted ‘independence’ while demanding the release of Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sanchez, who were charged with sedition. The separatist president, Carles Puigdemont and the mayor of Barcelona joined the protest, while the clock ticks down on the deadline on Thursday from Madrid as to whether the Catalan parliament will declare independence.
