Luca Ronconi, one of Italy and Europe’s most influential theatre and opera directors, died in hospital in Milan on Saturday night at the age of 81.
Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi was among those paying tribute, saying that Ronconi was a key figure in Italian culture and society and “a visionary genius”.
