The French city of Lyon is in the process of doubling the size of its urban centre, by creating a new district built on marshland reclaimed in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Confluence district is at the point where the Saône and Rhône rivers meet. Work began in 2003 and is expected to be finished by 2025. The area is bringing in thousands of new workers and residents, with ultra-modern architecture. Check out our slideshow of some of the striking designs and construction.
