Hungarian PM Viktor Orban lashes out at Europe's migration policies during visit to Bulgaria

He sees himself as a saviour of Europe's Christian nations. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has used a visit to Bulgaria to once again lash out at the EU's migration policies.

His words come in the run-up to his country's April elections.

"We think migration is dangerous to public security, to our welfare and to the European Christian culture," said Orban.

"Therefore we decided to put forward our own proposal, a package of amendments, which includes the proposals that were worked out by Hungary, and whose main point is for the EU to finally stop putting relocation, distribution at the centre of its thinking, instead of border protection."

Orban recently told his right-wing supporters that Christianity was Europe's last hope.

His conflicts place him increasingly at odds with Brussels. But at home, come the elections, Orban's expected to win a third consecutive landslide victory.
