The storm, which was a super typhoon when it hit the Philippines on Sunday, left at least 27 people dead before weakening over the sea.
By Wednesday morning, Fung-wong had dropped to tropical storm strength but still brought heavy rain and flooding.
Taiwan’s National Fire Agency said 51 people were injured and more than 8,000 had been evacuated, most of them in Hualien County, where flooding submerged vehicles and damaged homes.
Authorities warned of further landslides and power cuts as the storm continued to weaken while moving along Taiwan’s coast.
