Ringo Starr is about to release his 22nd solo album this month and recently opened up about the secret behind his energy levels...
Paul McCartney isn’t the only Beatle releasing music this year.
Before the release of McCartney’s 18th solo album, ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’, next month, Ringo Starr’s new album ‘Long Long Road’ will hit shelves on 24 April.
The former Beatles drummer will be joined by St. Vincent, Sheryl Crow and Billy Strings on his 22nd solo LP - billed as his third country and Americana album, following ‘Beaucoups of Blues’ (1970) and ‘Look Up’ (2025).
The 85-year-old will embark on a US tour from 28 May to 14 June, and has recently revealed the secret behind his energy level - a culinary trick for slowing the effects of ageing.
When asked what his secret was in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Starr opened up about how he keeps his energy up.
“Well, you’ve got to eat more broccoli. All the good things about me, I blame broccoli for,” he responded.
He added, riffing on his trademark catchphrase: “So now I say, peace and love and broccoli.”
There we have it. While some pump their faces full of dubious substances, commit to daily yoga, or dabble in archeology to find the ever-elusive fountain of youth, the answer was starring us in the face...
Hardly a surprise, really, as broccoli is chockablock full of good things.
The edible green feared by children all over the world is one of the best veggies when it comes to calcium and vitamin K (both essential for maintaining strong bones), and has the added bonus of being low in calories but high in fiber. Essentially, if you want to feel full but control your weight while promoting a healthy metabolism, it’s a must. Especially when steamed or stir-fried.
It’s no accident that nearly every action star in interviews credits their physique to a steady diet of chicken breasts and plenty of broccoli...
Back to Ringo.
The first taste of new his album ‘Long Long Road’ arrived last month with the single ‘It‘s Been Too Long’, a track co-written with T-Bone Burnett, who has produced the entire record.
Elsewhere, filming continues on Sam Mendes’ four Beatles biopics, The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event. Ringo will be played by Barry Keoghan. Paul McCartney will be portrayed by Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison and Harris Dickinson will be John Lennon.
The biopics are set for release in 2028.
Ringo Starr’s ‘Long Long Road’ is out on 24 April. Paul McCartney’s ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’ is out on Friday 29 May.
