Solar eclipse 2026 in pictures: The best shots from around Europe

Millions witnessed the most significant eclipse in Europe for decades yesterday evening as the Sun disappeared behind the Moon. Here are some of the best shots taken from the celestial event.

Parts of mainland Europe experienced its full solar eclipse in two decades yesterday evening, with the moon passing directly between the Earth and the Sun.

Considering the next total solar eclipse is not due to occur until 2081 for France, 2090 for the UK and not until the next century for Germany (Spain, on the other hand, get to see one next year), it was an event not worth missing.
