Skiers were thrown to the ground or had to jump to safety after a lift went out of control at a Georgia resort.

Holidaymakers were travelling downhill at the Gudauri ski resort when the lift started moving quickly backwards.

A video of the incident showed horrified onlookers shouting in panic as people were thrown to the ground.

At least eight people were injured, including nationals from Sweden and a Ukrainian, according to local media.

There were no deaths reported.

The Mountain Resort Development Company, from Georgia's Ministry of Economy, said it had contacted the ski-lift manufacturer, said Georgian media.
