Aasia Bibi allegedly poisoned a container of milk to escape her arranged marriage

A newlywed in Pakistan has been charged with murder after at least 15 family members were poisoned to death. Her husband, who was reportedly the target, was among those killed.

Police said Asiya Bibi was married against her will in September and wanted to return home to her parents.

It’s claimed she offered her husband milk with an added substance. When he refused it, Bibi used the milk to make yoghurt. It was then offered to members of her extended family. Up to ten people are reportedly still hospitalised.

Bibi had been questioned for two weeks to determine whether or not her boyfriend – who is said to have provided her with the poison – had incited her to kill. He and his aunt have also been arrested.

The suspect denied all the allegations against her said local media.
