The Trump administration has reportedly chosen retired Vice Admiral Robert Harward as its new national security adviser. But it was not immediately clear if Harward had accepted the offer.

The position has been vacant since Michael Flynn resigned this week over his contacts with Russia. Donald Trump has made national security a top priority and Flynn’s stepping down has been an embarrassment.

Harward went to school in Iran and has experience in counter-terrorism, working on the National Security Council under former President George W. Bush. He also has combat experience on SEAL teams and served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
