A son of Mexico’s infamous drug lord Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman was among a group of suspected criminals abducted in a top tourist resort.

Investigators say armed men from a rival cartel – Jalisco New Generation – burst into La Leche restaurant in Peurto Vallarta on Monday seizing at least six members of the Sinaloa Cartel, including Jesus Alfredo Guzman.

Jalisco Attorney General Eduardo Almaguer said:
“The investigation which is being carried out is progressing well in identifying some of the suspects who carried this out. Also, this investigation and the (cartel) ties of the suspects supports evidence they belong to a criminal group which has operated in our state in recent years.’‘

Re-captured in January and now back in jail, Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman led the Sinaloa Cartel, one of Mexico’s most feared drug gangs, for years.

There are concerns the kidnapping of his son Jesus could spark a war among rival groups.
