Former Saints footballer Will Smith was shot and killed on his way back from dinner in New Orleans’ Lower Garden District on Saturday night.
Local police said in a statement that Smith, who was accompanied by his wife at the time of the incident, was driving in a Mercedes when his car was hit from behind by a Hummer.
After an exchange of words, the driver of the other vehicle shot the couple multiple times. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene and his wife was transported to a local hospital.
According to reports, the gun was recovered and the driver of the Hummer is in police custody.
