Ankara bombing victims: lives cut short

There is never a face or a name in a number and when news outlets publish, post or broadcast, as CNN did on Saturday (10/10/15) that: “Two powerful bombs have exploded at a peace rally near the main train station in Ankara killing at least 95 people and wounding 246 others.” We, the audience tend to see the carnage in a macrocosm, we don’t look beyond the numbers. But who were those murdered in Ankara? Why were they there? Social media has provided some answers. Take nine-year-old Veysel Atılgan, he was youngest to perish in the killings. Her parents arrived from Sanliurfa in southeast Turkey to join up with the march. They met at the station. Başak was killed, she was only 20.
