This is the moment a police traffic officer captured a fireball meteor streaking over the UK countryside.

The police officers admitted to being shocked by the event captured by their dashboard camera. Posting the footage online, West Midlands Police commented: “We’re used to catching suspects on camera but on Mon we recorded this meteor fireball in the sky over @m42motorway.”

The Norman Lockyer Observatory in Devon also filmed the rare ‘bolide’ meteor just after 2am on Tuesday morning (July 1). A member of the UK Meteor Observation Network told British newspaper The Telegraph that it was by far the largest ever witnessed at the observatory.
