Last week, Euronews celebrated 10 years of its partnership with Japan, marking a decade of high-quality journalism and shared vision.

Over the past ten years, the collaboration has produced hundreds of original reports. Recent highlights include extensive coverage of Expo 2025 and the Ukraine Mine Conference in Tokyo.

Euronews has also delved into Japanese innovation in the country and across the globe, while focusing on green energy developments and showcasing Japan’s worldwide impact and collaborations through the series "Global Japan".

In addition, the channel delivered coverage of the Paralympics and Olympics in Japan that went beyond the headlines, bringing audiences closer to these major sporting events.

Euronews has explored Japan’s rich culture, heritage, and traditions, including its renowned gastronomy and how its influence in this area is far-reaching in programmes like "Here We Grow".

The long-running TV series "Tokyo My City" showcases this enduring partnership, featuring well-known ambassadors handpicked by the city to reveal their favourite spots, hidden gems, and the very best Tokyo has to offer.

High-level debate highlights Europe–Japan cooperation

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Euronews hosted an Euronews Debates on Thursday, 4 December 2025, titled "Bridging Continents: Europe–Japan Cooperation for Resilient Economic Security in an Era of Geopolitical Uncertainty".

This high-level discussion was part of Japan’s Road to Economic Security Summit – Global Forum Weeks (GFW), organised by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), and brought together leading European and Japanese voices to explore how both regions can deepen cooperation on economic security, supply chain resilience, and technological innovation amid growing global challenges.

Panellists included Ms Adeline Hinderer, Minister Counsellor, Head of the Trade Section, EU Delegation to Japan; Mr Mathieu Duchâtel, Director of International Studies, Institut Montaigne, France; Mr Takuma Inamura, Senior Director, Policy Planning and Coordination Division, Trade and Economic Security Bureau, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; Mr Shin Oya, Visiting Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Geoeconomics, and Chief Analyst, Sojitz Research Institute; and Mr Kohei Kubo, Senior Manager, International Affairs Bureau, Keidanren (Japan Business Federation).The debate was moderated by Claus Strunz, CEO and Editorial Director of Euronews. In his closing address, Claus Strunz underlined Euronews’ broader mission and commitment to democratic values, stating:

“Euronews is not only the largest European media platform - above all, it is a promise to everyone who believes in democratic values. We work hard every day to defend freedom - freedom of speech, freedom of markets, free elections, and the freedom to live one’s personal life. We believe that borders must be recognized and in the rule of law. Anyone who shares these values will always find a supporter and a partner in us.”
