Bennington joined Linkin Park in 1999 and found huge success just a year later with the album “Hybrid Theory”.
But his life wasn’t always so sunny – he was molested as a child, and later struggled with drug and alcohol problems, this lead to his searingly personal lyrics.
Speaking at Comic Con in San Diego where they were promoting their new film, American actor Channing Tatum and co-star Pedro Pascal, said the news had come as a complete shock.
“I’m actually a massive fan of the band and I met Chester a couple times. He’s… Yeah, it’s pretty horrific. Yeah, I don’t really have… These things are always just pretty terrible,” said Tatum.
Bennington’s death comes just days before the band was due to kick off the US leg of their latest world tour to promote new album “One More Light” .
The video for the new single ‘Talking to Myself’, featuring Bennington, was released shortly after the singer’s death.
Chester Bennington is survived by his six children (Jaime, Isaiah, Draven, Tyler Lee and twins Lily and Lila) and his wife Talinda Ann Bentley.
