Wales' Neil Taylor was sent off after making a horrific challenge on Ireland defender Seamus Coleman

In the latest round of World Cup qualifiers in Europe it ended all square in a tight, nervy and often bitter encounter between Ireland and Wales. The Welsh were reduced to ten men as Neil Taylor saw red for a terrible tackle on Everton’s Seamus Coleman. Serbia meanwhile made light work of Georgia to win 3-1 and extend their lead at the top of Group D.

David Silva, Machin Perez, Diego Costa, and Isco were the scorers as Spain comfortably overpowered Israel. Given their dominance, the home side could’ve reached double figures and will no doubt be disappointed to have conceded a goal.

Elsewhere in Group G, Italy keeper Gianluigi Buffon had a fairly comfortable night on his 1,000th professional appearance as Les Azzurri eased to a 2-nil victory over Albania in a match interrupted early in the second half when visiting fans set off firecrackers.

A first half double from striker Cenk Tosun gave Turkey victory over Finland in their Group I encounter but the win does them no favours in table as Croatia narrowly defeated Ukraine to maintain their lead at the top of the group while Iceland overcame Kosovo to move up to second place, three points behind Croatia.
