A migrant from Syria, aged 23, caught hiding in a suitcase in the port of Mytilini, Lesbos Island, Greece has been arrested by Greek police.

The mother of the 23 year old migrant, who herself has legal paperwork, was also arrested for her effort to smuggle her son on board a ferry.

The woman was attempting to travel from Lesbos to Piraeus on Thursday night. She was carrying with her an oversized suitcase accompanied by a second male child aged 24.

Like his brother in the suitcase, he too didn’t have valid travel papers. Police officers’ suspicions were confirmed when they asked the suitcase be opened and the young adult revealed.

The Greek port of Lesbos is closed for those migrants and refugees who arrived on the island after an agreement was struck between the European Union and Turkey on handling migrant flows.

The family of three was promptly arrested by police.
