Spanish officials say deliberate sabotage of fibre-optic cables led to traffic chaos on the high-speed rail system in Catalonia on Thursday (October 8). Two cuts were made to the communications system and its backup, which would have required brute force to access, and a detailed knowledge of the system. Services between Tarragona and Figueras were suspended for four hours, stranding nearly 10,000 passengers.
