A group of anonymous guerilla artists who sympathise with the former National Security employee were responsible.

They put it up on top of an existing stone pillar that is part of a monument in Fort Greene Park in Brooklyn

A video of the event was released by ANIMALNEWYOK.COM a local news and culture blog who were invited to witness the installation.

By midday park officials had covered it up prior to it being removed.

Edward Snowden who leaked details of massive US intelligence-gathering programmes, remains in hiding in Russia.
