At least 25 people have been hospitalised in Canada following an accident involving an Airbus A320.

The Air Canada flight skidded off the runway at Halifax, following an abrupt landing. Heavy snow meant visibility was reduced.

However initial reports suggest the accident could have been caused by an electrical fault.

The plane was travelling from Toronto with 137 people on board. There are no reports of deaths or serious injury.

The A320 boasts a strong safety record – the plane involved in the deadly Germanwings crash in the French Alps is not thought to have suffered technical problems.
