Mongolia is the most sparsely populated independent country on the planet, vast unspoiled steppes stretch as far as the eye can see.

But, the country is undergoing major changes: the traditional nomadic way of life is threatened as climate change wipes out livestock and forces herders to migrate to Ulaanbaatar, placing a huge strain on resources on what is the world’s coldest capital city.

In 2012 Ulaanbaatar is a capital under pressure.
