But Edinburgh’s stories are not confined to its castle walls. Over the centuries, the city has inspired fictional characters such as Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes. Allen Foster takes Lilly on a book lovers' tour, uncovering the capital's hidden literary stories.
Scotland’s heritage also lives through its crafts. At The Islander Workshop, Lilly discovers how tartan textiles, traditionally made in the Outer Hebrides, are transformed into modern fashion accessories.
Beyond Edinburgh, the ruins of Lochleven are full of tales of Mary Queen of Scots. With bagpipeist Mackenzie Dalrymple, Lilly learns about the castle’s history and is introduced to the unmistakable sound of Scotland.
Her journey ends at the coastal town of St. Andrews, known as the home of golf. At the historic golf course, where the sport has been played for over 600 years, she learns why Scotland is so popular with visitors from around the world.
