Forest fires struck in more European countries than ever before. Last year, wildfires destroyed nearly 178,000 hectares of land across the continent. That’s according to a new report by the EU Commission, which says it’s having to spend more to protect our countryside.

Amazon burning: Smoke travels nearly 3000 km to black out Sao Paulo
Wildfires in the Amazon rainforest have hit a record number this year, according to research carried out by Brazil’s space research centre (INPE).
It cites 72,843 fires, marking an increase of 83% compared to 2018 — the highest since records began in 2013.
