Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan the creation of a "buffer zone" in Syria's Idlib province. It will be a demilitarized area in between Syrian government forces and rebel forces during the looming battle for the territory.

British-Iranian national Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe had a traumatic return to Iran's Evin prison. She collapsed during a panic attack in her cell and taken to the prison's medical centre. Nazanin was taken back into custody on Sunday after her first weekend release since she was imprisoned in 2016.
