Roblox allows users to play games, chat, and interact with millions of other people online as they roam a virtual world.
Russia's media regulator said it would block the popular online gaming platform Roblox, accusing it of distributing content "justifying terrorism" and spreading LGBT-related content.
Russian media quoted Roskomnadzor as saying on Wednesday that Roblox has also engaged in "calls for violent crimes, and LGBT propaganda" and had become rife with "inappropriate content that can negatively impact the spiritual and moral development of children", according to local news outlets.
The agency said scenarios simulating terrorist attacks, as well as gambling, are often found on Roblox.
A spokesperson from Roblox said that the company respected local laws and regulations in the countries it operates and believes “Roblox provides a positive space for learning, creation and meaningful connection for everyone”.
“We have a deep commitment to safety and we have a robust set of proactive and preventative safety measures designed to catch and prevent harmful content on our platform,” the statement sent to Euronews Next added.
Russia’s regulator also said there were reports of sexual harassment of children and the sharing of intimate images on the platform.
Other countries, including Turkey, Iran, and China have banned Roblox due to concerns about child safety.
Roblox announced this month it would stop allowing children to chat with adult strangers, following criticism over the platform's networking feature.
