Lucy Letby was arrested by police on Tuesday and charged the following day. She appeared in front of a judge via video link on Thursday for a brief 10-minute hearing at Warrington Magistrates’ Court. She sat behind a desk, next to her lawyer, and confirmed her name, date of birth and home address.

The 30-year-old nurse is facing eight charges of murder and 10 charges of attempted murder as part of an ongoing investigation into a number of baby deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital, in northwest England, between June 2015 and June 2016.

Police launched an investigation into the babies' deaths at the hospital in May 2017.

Letby had previously been arrested twice — in 2018 and 2019 — but released on bail pending further investigation without being charged.
