A court in Istanbul has sentenced a Turkish journalist to more than a year in jail for her work on the Paradise Papers investigation into offshore tax havens.

Pelin Ünker was found guilty of "defamation and insult" for writing about companies owned by former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and his sons.

After the sentence was issued, Ünker told the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists she intended to appeal.

Turkey has the world’s worst record for jailing journalists, with 68 in prison at the end of last year.
