Italian MEP Antonio Tajani still leads in the race to become the next head of the European Parliament.

The centre-right politican beat his centre-left Gianni Pittella by 287 votes to 200 in the second round.

A third round is now being held.

The head of the European Parliament actually has little in the way of real power – it is a largely ceremonial post.

But the holder represents MEPs on the international stage by appearing at EU summits or other major events.
