Britain has nominated the country’s ambassador to France, Julian King, to take over its vacant seat at the European Commission.

Britain has nominated the country’s ambassador to France, Julian King, to take over its vacant seat at the European Commission.

Jonathan Hill, the previous UK commissioner, resigned after the British electorate voted to leave the EU.

He will stand down next Friday.

Despite the Brexit vote, Commission lawyers says the UK retains all the full rights of an EU member state until it formally notifies of its decision to leave
