The US president Barack Obama has told reporters in London that the outcome of the UK referendum on EU membership is of deep interest to the US because it affects US interests.
He said that ultimately the British voters will decide, but the UK is at its best when it is in the EU. He said the EU helps UK magnify its power, and that is good for America.
Obama, speaking after a meeting with the British prime minister, quoted from the works of English poet John Donne saying, “no man is an island.”
Obama said the alliance between the UK and the US is a strong one which has helped them tackle problems like Ebola, the Iran nuclear issue and climate climate change.
Britain’s Prime Minister David Cameron said the collective power of the UK and US is amplified with Britain’s membership of the EU.
