Britain’s most-famous Eurosceptic has spoken the words that many thought they would never hear – “I love Europe”.

Nigel Farage, leader of Britain’s burgeoning anti-EU party UKIP, made the comments in a spoof party political commercial for a bookmaker.

The controversial MEP was giving his support to Europe’s golfers ahead of this weekend’s Ryder Cup in Scotland, against the US.

Farage, teasing the US over Tiger Woods’ injury, says in the video: “How did you do that, Tiger? Carrying the hopes and dreams of a nation on your shoulders?

“To quote the great lyricist and golf fanatic, Justin Timberlake, ‘Cry Me A River’, America. And preferably a great, European river, like the Rhine. Or the Ouse.”

Europe – lead by Paul McGinley and backed online using the hashtag #swingforeurope – will be looking to build on their incredible comeback at Medinah two years ago when the US lost despite leading 10-6 going into the final day.

I'm loving Europe right now #SwingForEurope https://t.co/EAHyDK2QD3
