The film shows the social context marking the era of suffragettes. At the beginning of the century in the United Kingdom, fathers had total authority over their children and could take the children from their mothers.
In a classic style, with great actresses such as Carey Mulligan and Meryl Streep, the film depicts all the tension and the violence of an episode which was a milestone in the history of the twentieth century.
