The group behind the popular Candy Crush Saga mobile games is to be bought by video game maker Activision Blizzard in the industry’s biggest deal of the year.

Activision said in a statement that it would pay $5.9 billion (5.4 billion euros) to acquire King Digital Entertainment.

Video game publishers are shifting to the lucrative digital business as consumers move from consoles to playing on smartphones and tablets.

Activision is the company behind hit console games like the “Call of Duty” series.

The deal which still has to be approved by King’s shareholders as well as legal authorities and regulators, will give the combined group more than 500 monthly active users across almost 200 countries.

The deal, particularly the amount of money involved, has raised eyebrows in the technology industry.
