The company behind ChatGPT will open an office in Madrid to strengthen its European presence and work more closely with Spanish firms, developers, research centres and institutions.
OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, will open an office in the Spanish capital as part of its strategy to expand in Europe and with the aim of deepening its cooperation with businesses, developers and institutions in the country.
The office will become operational later in the year. ChatGPT's weekly active users in Spain have increased by more than 40% year-on-year, according to local reports, placing the country among the top five European markets in terms of weekly active users.
The company believes that Spain has established itself as one of the most dynamic technology and artificial intelligence ecosystems in Europe, with a growing number of companies incorporating AI tools into their processes and services.
The new hub will allow OpenAI to work more closely with Spanish companies, public administrations, research centres and developers who use its artificial intelligence models.
The firm has already followed a similar strategy in other European countries, where it has opened offices to drive the adoption of its technologies and strengthen its regional presence.
OpenAI, founded in 2015 and known worldwide for launching ChatGPT, has stepped up its international expansion in recent years. The company already has a presence in cities such as London, Paris, Brussels and Munich as part of a strategy designed to consolidate its footprint in Europe.
