Multiple Russian missiles struck the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia from Wednesday night into early Thursday, local officials said, injuring at least 17 people.

In the early hours of Thursday, first responders were seen clearing rubble from residential areas across the city.

Doctors say some of the wounded are children. Rescuers pulled one man from the rubble, but he did not survive.

Several floors of a student residence were destroyed in the attack.

“The enemy had been attacking Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia district for several hours. A dormitory was hit — several floors there have been destroyed,” regional governor Ivan Fedorov wrote on his social media page.

Search and rescue operations are continuing, according to the head of the Zaporizhzhia regional administration.
