FC Barcelona have announced Ronald Koeman as their new manager.

"If nothing goes wrong, Koeman will be Barça's head coach next season. We already know how he thinks and his philosophy", said the club's president Josep Maria Bartomeu on Tuesday.

The Dutch boss and European champion with the Spanish club in 1991 is expected to sign a two-year contract which will see him leaving the role of coach of the Dutch national team.

It comes after FC Barcelona fired Quique Setién on Monday, in the aftermath of a disastrous 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

Setién himself had replaced another sacked manager back in January this year, Ernesto Valverde, but didn't manage to win any trophy for the "Blaugrana" during this season, getting knocked out of the Champions League and finishing La Liga second behind Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid.

He was the second coach of a major European football club to be sacked in less than two weeks after Juventus FC dismissed Maurizio Sarri following another shocking Champions League elimination, suffered by the Italian club against french team Olympique Lyonnaise.
